Description
Wall Mesh Mortar (WPC)
Innovative Seismic Stabilization System for Non-Structural Walls
Introduction
Wall Mesh Mortar (WPC) offers an advanced solution for the seismic strengthening of non-structural walls in buildings. This system involves the application of fiberglass mesh strips to the wall surface, followed by a layer of mineral plaster. The resulting cementitious composite enhances wall resistance against out-of-plane seismic forces.
WPC is classified under Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) systems, with design principles aligned with ACI 549 standards. It provides an effective alternative to traditional wall post techniques used in seismic bracing.
Preparation Instructions
For cement-based plaster: Mix with clean water at a ratio of 8:1 (plaster to water).
For gypsum-based plaster: Mix at a 2:1 ratio.
Use a mechanical mixer to ensure a uniform, lump-free consistency.
Application Steps
Apply the first layer of plaster to the masonry substrate (concrete block, lightweight aggregate, clay, or AAC).
Immediately press the fiberglass mesh onto the fresh plaster.
Apply the second layer of plaster over the mesh for encapsulation.
Use intermittent steel angle connectors with structural epoxy and fasteners (nails or anchors) to fix the mesh at designated intervals to adjacent structural members.
